Iraqi Makam Singer Rashid Alqundarchi was born in Sabe'a Abkar neighborhood in the city of Baghdad in 1887 from a poor parents which force him to work at a shoe factory and that where he got his nickname "the shoe maker" or Alqundarchi in Arabic .
he learned singing by attending singing sessions in coffee shops following the foot steps of the singer Sheick Jelal Alhanaphy, and when he grew up he dominated the Makam scene in Iraq for over the first half of the 20th century .
later in his career he started to drink alcohol to escape his personal and professional problems, till his death in1948.
